6 Reasons Why Audien's Ion IQ Is the Best Bluetooth Hearing Aid
Summary: Phone calls were the first thing my hearing loss took from me. Audien's Ion IQ plays calls and music over Bluetooth right into both ears, runs from an app on iPhone or Android, and costs $689 a pair with no prescription. Here are the 6 reasons I'd pick it.
Calls From Your Daughter Play Inside Both Ears
For years I took calls on speaker with the volume all the way up. My wife could follow both sides of every conversation from the next room, and pressing the phone to my old hearing aid just turned half the words into a squeal.
Ion IQ pairs with your phone over Bluetooth, so calls stream straight into both hearing aids. Music streams the same way.
The first time my daughter rang after I got them, I didn't ask her to repeat a single thing. She noticed before I did.
Turn Them Up From Your Phone, iPhone or Android
Audien's app runs on iPhone and Android. In the app you can raise the volume, switch hearing profiles, change modes and set how much background noise gets through.
I use that last one most. At my grandson's basketball game I turned the crowd down from the bleachers in a couple of seconds, and nobody saw me fiddling with my ears.
You can also adjust Ion IQ on the device itself, so you aren't reaching for your phone every time.
Six Hearing Profiles Built by Audiologists, and You Pick Yours
Audien's audiologists built Ion IQ around six hearing profiles modeled on the most common types of hearing loss doctors see. You try them, keep the one where voices come through clearest, and IQ adapts to you from there.
The sound runs through Audien's A2™ MAX chip. Voices sounded like the people I know again, and music had more body than I expected from something this small.
Our TV went back to a normal volume. My wife was happier about that than anything else on this list.
Crowded Rooms Stop Drowning Out the Person Next to You
Restaurants used to be where I nodded along and guessed. Ion IQ uses voice isolation to quiet the room and bring speech forward, so the person across the table stays clear over the clatter.
There are four modes: Comfort, Conversation, Crowd and TV. Crowd is the one I switch on at the farmers market on Saturday mornings.
Audien's own number: 90% noticed better hearing in group settings. I'm in that 90%.
Set Them Up at Your Kitchen Table Without a Prescription
The app walks you through setup one screen at a time. I did mine over coffee on a Tuesday and wore them out to lunch the same day.
If you'd rather have a person help, every pair comes with a free 30-minute Audien Sound Check™ with a certified hearing specialist, who goes through setup, fit and adjustments with you.
There's also a 45-day risk-free trial, so you can live with them for a while before you decide.
64 Hours of Listening Before You Look for an Outlet
The charging case fits in a shirt pocket and gives you up to 64 hours of listening time. It carries a backup battery and charges over USB-C, so I leave the cable at home for a weekend away.
It also UV-cleans the hearing aids while they charge. They go in the case at night and come out clean in the morning.
The behind-the-ear Halo™ design is small enough that my brother-in-law didn't spot them until I pointed them out.
Hear Your Next Call Clearly
One price covers the hearing aids, the charging case and a 1-on-1 setup with a hearing specialist.
